Attorney James B. Sheils has been re-elected for his fourth term as East Longmeadow, Massachusetts Town Moderator. Sheils has held his position as town moderator for nine consecutive years, over three-year terms. He will continue to serve the town of East Longmeadow in his fourth term, presiding over town meetings he describes as, “the most democratic form of government in the United States.”
Sheils has previously served as a panelist at the annual meeting of The Massachusetts Moderators Association, and has served on their board of directors as well.
“Town meetings provide the public an opportunity to participate,” said Sheils. “It is an honor to serve the East Longmeadow community, and I encourage residents to come and exercise their right and privilege as legislators.”
Sheils concentrates his legal practice in the areas of commercial finance law, creditor’s rights, banking law and telecommunications siting matters. He was recently honored in November 2012, as the inaugural recipient of the John Auchter Award, a distinguished service award, from the Goodwill Industries of the Pioneer Valley. The award acknowledges those who show extraordinary dedication to community service, and recognized Sheils for his more than three decades of service to the non-profit organization.
